52.  Comparative Thermodynamic Study Regarding the Liquid - Vapor Equilibrium in C5 Saturated - Unsaturated Hydrocarbons - Solvent

Authors: I. Comanescu, F. Oprea

Abstract:

The C5 fraction is used as raw material for obtaining tert- amil methyl ether (TAME) through the etherification reaction. Because the raw material is rather low on isoamilenes, the TAME concentration in the reaction product is also low, somewhere under 40%. One method to increase the isoamilenes concentration in the C5 fraction is to use the process of extractive distillation in the presence of the adequate solvent. The C5 fraction can be assimilated with a hypothetic binary mixture, formed of saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons. In order to find the most suitable solvent for the extractive distillation process, it is necessary to know the y-x equilibrium data in the saturated - unsaturated hydrocarbons – solvent system. Because it is very difficult to obtain experimental data in binary studied systems for financial reasons, the results of simulating, with the help of Pro/II programs package in view of gathering data that would allow the y-x equilibrium curves to be drawn, with and without solvent. The simulated results were compared with the experimental ones on components mixtures. Thus, this method will allow validation of the equilibrium data obtained with the UNIFAC thermodynamic model, in order to later simulate the extractive distillation plant.
