Abstract:
A study on the synthesis of trisubstituted ureas by a one-pot procedure using bis(o-nitrophenyl) carbonate (DoNFC) as phosgene substitute is reported. Two sequences of amine addition to the carbonate solution were employed: in the first procedure the secondary amine was added first with the primary amine being added only after the carbonate had been fully converted to carbamate; in the second procedure the order of the addition of the amines was reversed. FTIR spectroscopy and TLC were used for monitoring the reactions. The products were isolated from the reaction mixture by precipitation or by column chromatography separation in high yields.
