Abstract:
The new mononuclear complex CoVEP(X)2, where X = NCS-, and binuclear complex Ni2VEP(X)4·4H2O, X=ClO4- where
VEP stands for N,N’-bis-(5,5’-diethyl-barbituryl-1-methyl)-piperazine, were obtained by metal - ligand direct synthesis. The nature of
the complexes was established on the basis of elemental analyses and structural information were obtained from molar conductivity
values in different solvents and UV VIS and IR spectra. Tetrahedral geometry of the metal ion is preserved in solution as well in solid
state.
Electronic spectra of mononuclear complex in DMSO and in solid state, indicate the distorted octahedral geometry around the Co(II)
ion. The binuclear complexes contains VEP in a chair conformation. The mononuclear complex, CoVEP(NCS)2, contain the ligand
VEP in a boat conformation.
