Abstract:
This paper presents the influence of reaction time and catalyst amount on the yield of biodiesel synthesis from palm oil and soybean oil by alkali-catalyzed transesterification with methanol. The reaction temperature has been maintained between 50-55 °C (slightly below the boiling point of methanol), and the molar ratio of alcohol to oil was 6:1. Several properties of biodiesel were analyzed and compared with values of international and European standards.
Keywords:
biodiesel, methyl esters, transesterification, alkali-catalyzed
